Team Sheldon

Team Sheldon is a partnership among the Oswego County public schools, CiTi (Center for Instruction, Technology, and Innovation) BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services), and the SUNY Oswego School of Education. The Team Sheldon Executive Steering Committee consists of a subset of Oswego County School Superintendents, the Dean of the School of Education, and the Director of Team Sheldon. Each participating Oswego County school district hosts a PDS Liaison from the School of Education. Team Sheldon collaborates on issues of mutual interest, such as field placements, professional development, teacher research, grant writing, and new programs, initiatives, and projects. It also supports various annual projects, including the Oswego County Professional Development Schools (PDS) Initiative, Oswego Writing Institute, the PDS Slam, and Sheldon Institute (a grade 2-10 summer educational enrichment program).   Click here for an overview of our PDS Partnerships.   https://www.oswego.edu/education/file/suny-oswego-professional-development-school-partnerships-2022

Sheldon Institute

This two-week educational enrichment program for students entering grades 2 through 10 runs each summer on the SUNY Oswego campus and is designed to meet the academic and cultural needs of motivated and creative students. The program runs the last week in July and the first week in August each year and classes fill quickly.

Novice students, grades 2-3, and Intermediate students, grades 4-5, have a set program that includes art projects, science, language, history, cultural appreciation and may include swim time. Older students choose four different daily workshops, emphasizing problem solving and critical thinking skills in the arts, communication, cultural appreciation, science, technology, writing, and more. The institute offers small class sizes, projects chosen to engage young learners, and dynamic teachers who entice students to return summer after summer. It is co-sponsored by Team Sheldon and the School of Education with support from the Tarandi Foundation, and for the tenth year, will be directed by Ms. Kathleen Bartley, retired from the Central Square School District. For more information, contact Candy Rasbeck in the School of Education Dean's Office (302 Park Hall, 315.312.2103).

All are designed to promote authentic learning social justice for P-12 students, promote professional growth among preservice and in-service teachers, and use an inquiry approach to address the diverse learning needs of P-12 students. Several faculty members from various departments in the School of Education co-design and participate in PDS initiatives.
