Application process

Application checklist

The graduate school application process is similar to applying for college. Every school has their own system, check their website and catalogue for specifics and deadlines. Most schools require these items:

  • Application
  • Personal statement/purpose statement
  • Application fee
  • Financial aid application
  • Transcripts
  • References
  • Test Scores

Graduate programs are more rigorous and involved. Admissions will want to know specifically why you have chosen their program, be specific about who you are, your career goals, and the reasons you’re attracted to their program. While drafting your personal statement make sure your writing is succinct, organized and thorough. Remember, your statement will prove your writing ability, academic knowledge and commitment. While writing weave in examples of related experience.

While applying give yourself enough time to obtain and complete all the requirements. And just in case, keep copies of all the admissions material you send in. Graduate school entrance tests are field-specific.
