Student social to commemorate National First-Generation College Celebration

October 31, 2024

SUNY Oswego's FirstLEAP Committee invites the campus community to a First-Generation College Student Social from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, in 215 Penfield Library and Speakers' Corner. All are welcome to come for a few minutes or stay for an hour (or two) to enjoy games and the company of fellow first-gens (and allies).

'Searching For Timbuctoo' director visits for film screening and talkback

The campus community is invited to a free screening of the 60-minute film "Searching For Timbuctoo" at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 6:30pm in 122 Shineman Center. Director Paul A. Miller will join afterwards to hold a talkback with the audience.

Real Estate Club to host regional conference Nov. 7

SUNY Oswego’s Real Estate Club is hosting the first-ever Oswego Real Estate Conference on campus from noon to 6 p.m. on Nov. 7 to provide students the opportunity to find jobs, network and get a first-hand experience in this career.

SEFA, UP team up for Blessings in a Backpack fundraiser

This November, the State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) campaign will partner with University Police Lt. Kevin Ermann to raise money for the Blessings in a Backpack Oswego Chapter.

Blessings in a Backpack is a national organization that helps feed hungry students on weekends and holidays throughout the school year.

The number of children relying on this service locally has grown from 50 in 2013 to around 250 in 2016, and has since doubled as the cost of food has also risen significantly, organizers said.

United Way funding to support RSVP's ongoing community service

The Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Oswego County is thrilled to announce the award of a $30,000 grant spread over three years from United Way of Greater Oswego County. These funds will contribute to RSVP’s ongoing work of engaging seniors aged 55 and up in volunteer service that meets critical needs in Oswego County.

The grant will support recruitment, volunteer tracking and retention, as well as marketing efforts, allowing RSVP to benefit more Oswego County residents over the next three years.
