United Way funding to support RSVP's ongoing community service

The Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Oswego County is thrilled to announce the award of a $30,000 grant spread over three years from United Way of Greater Oswego County. These funds will contribute to RSVP’s ongoing work of engaging seniors aged 55 and up in volunteer service that meets critical needs in Oswego County.

The grant will support recruitment, volunteer tracking and retention, as well as marketing efforts, allowing RSVP to benefit more Oswego County residents over the next three years.

Signups still available for today's flu/COVID vaccination clinic

The second-to-last on-campus flu and COVID Moderna vaccine clinic will be held Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Swetman Gym. Organizers encourage people to sign up to secure a spot and to help keep themselves and the campus safe.

If unable to make it today, an additional opportunity exists for a clinic from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

SEFA project helps holiday card drive

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 28 to Nov. 1, the university's State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) campaign will have tables in the Marano Campus Center for students and employees to sign holiday cards for many military men and women. 

Organizers noted this shows troops that people back home are thinking of them while they are away from their families for the holidays. All signed cards will be collected and sent to the military branches overseas just in time for the holidays.

Faculty expert to discuss 'The Longitude Problem' in marine museum series

Oswego's H. Lee White Maritime Museum will feature SUNY Distinguished Professor in Physics and Astronomy Shashi Kanbur presenting “The Longitude Problem” at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, as part of their fall History Lecture Series.

Isaac Fitzgerald has been an altar boy, a barback, a smuggler and a celebrated memoirist who made it onto both The New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists -- and will appear on campus at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, in the Marano Campus Center auditorium (room 132).

Empty Bowls fundraiser offers involvement opportunities

The Clay Bodies Ceramics Club will host their annual Empty Bowls fundraiser on Nov. 15 supporting the food pantries of SHOP (Students Helping Oz Peers) on campus and the Human Concerns Center in the community, with the student club hosting some opportunities starting this weekend to help create the products.
