‘Silent Sky’ opens theatre season, exploring life of pioneering woman in science

SUNY Oswego’s Theatre Department will open its season with a production of “Silent Sky.” which follows pioneering astronomer Henrietta Leavitt in the 19th century and her groundbreaking discovery of calculating the distance of the universe using Cepheid variable stars.

History professor hosts podcast discussion for History of Medicine Week

Gwen Kay, professor of history and director of Oswego's Honors Program, recently played a key role in History of Medicine Week events by the  American Association for the History of Medicine (AAHM) from Oct. 6 to 10.

A member of AAHM's Education and Outreach Committee, Kay served as the host/convenor of a discussion on “Federal Regulations: Progressive Era and Beyond” for the "Perspectives on Science” podcast.

First-gen Student Spotlight: Axel Lopez credits ACE program, affordability

Axel Lopez, a first-year broadcast and digital media major, is among the 30% of SUNY Oswego students who are first-generation. The youngest of eight, Lopez shared how resources at Oswego, such as the Advancing Completion Through Engagement (ACE) program, are helping him achieve his goal of becoming the first in his family to earn a college degree.

Not only has renowned musician and educator Tim Herron returned to teach guitar at his alma mater of SUNY Oswego, but he recently contributed a tune to Central New York’s Acoustic Guitar Project that was dedicated to a faculty mentor, the late Stan Gosek.
