SUNY Oswego President Peter O. Nwosu has been named to City & State’s 2025 Upstate Power 100, a list recognizing leaders who are shaping the future of politics, policy, education, business, and community life across the region. The annual ranking highlights individuals whose work is driving progress in Upstate New York.
President Nwosu was selected for his leadership in advancing SUNY Oswego’s Vision 4040, a long-term commitment to doubling the number of degrees and credentials the university awards by 2040. The initiative aims to expand access, strengthen regional partnerships, and prepare Central New Yorkers for the opportunities emerging across the state’s growing economy.
In recognizing President Nwosu, City & State noted the essential role higher education plays in supporting major economic developments such as Micron Technology’s planned investment in nearby Clay. Under President Nwosu’s leadership, SUNY Oswego has worked to align academic programs and workforce preparation with the region’s evolving needs, including new efforts in microcredentials, advanced manufacturing pathways and adult learner access.
“I am honored to be included on this list alongside so many individuals who are shaping the future of Upstate New York,” President Nwosu said. “Our region is at a pivotal moment. SUNY Oswego is committed to helping more students gain the education and skills that will allow them to thrive in a changing economy and contribute to the strength of their communities.”
President Nwosu’s selection reflects SUNY Oswego’s expanding impact across Central New York and the university’s role in preparing the next generation of leaders, innovators and problem-solvers.
