‘Sweet’ sap-collecting partnership to result in maple syrup

SUNY Oswego’s Sustainability Office and Auxiliary Services partnered with a Native American studies class taught by Michael Chaness in this year’s maple tapping event that will result in maple syrup for the campus and community.

SEFA springs forward with annual bulb sale

The annual SUNY Oswego State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) Spring Flowering Bulb Sale is now open as a fundraiser supporting community causes.

Campus community members can welcome spring by purchasing six-inch potted flowering spring bulbs provided by Chuck Hafner's Farmers Market and Garden Center. In addition to brightening a home or office, flowering bulbs can be a gift for birthdays, Easter or just to brighten someone's day.

The flowering pots cost $13 for one, or two for $25. Varieties and colors include tulip, daffodil, hyacinth, chrysanthemum and Easter lily.

Award-winning Saakumu Dance Troupe from Ghana to perform March 8

The award-winning Saakumu Dance Troupe from Ghana will share a repertoire reflecting traditional and contemporary cultures at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, in SUNY Oswego’s Waterman Theatre.

15th annual Sportsmanship Day Symposium set March 2

The 15th annual Sportsmanship Day Symposium on Thursday, March 2, will feature faculty, students and staff presenting on a wide variety of topics, and even a musical performance.

Co-sponsored by SUNY Oswego's sports studies program and the Sociology Department, the symposium will take place from 2:20 to 5:15 p.m. Participants give approximately 12-minute presentations on a story/event that involves sportsmanship, whether good or poor.

BSU to host ‘Black Friday’ Variety Show on Feb. 24

The Black Student Union will offer praise and a showcase for students by celebrating Black culture in the "Black Friday" Variety Show on Friday, Feb. 24, in the Sheldon Hall ballroom.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., and tickets cost $7 per person via the tickets.oswego.edu website.

Attendees can expect a variety of scenes that showcase talent and culture in ways including modeling, dancing and much more. Dtay Blackie will serve as host.

EMS (scheduling software) outage on Feb. 28

Due to a scheduled upgrade, an EMS scheduling software outage will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

EMS is the software used to make room reservations for events. The system is expected to return to full (upgraded) operation by Wednesday, March 1.

Info/practice sessions set for Three-Minute Thesis competition

The Graduate Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition on March 8 will offer an opportunity for graduate students to earn $500 and build virtual presentation skills.

Prior to the March 8 event, Graduate Studies will offer a pair of information sessions to help those interested in entering the competition. 3MT information sessions will take place via Zoom on Wednesday, Feb. 22 from 10 to 11 a.m., and Thursday, March 2 from 4 to 5 p.m. Use this Zoom link to attend either session.

‘Collage’ fundraising concert to return for first time in three years

But the popular music highlight makes its comeback with a free performance at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 3, in Tyler Hall’s Waterman Theatre.

Profound sadness for those affected by earthquake in Turkey

The SUNY Oswego community stands in solidarity with the hundreds of thousands affected by the recent earthquake in Turkey and northern Syria that has taken more than 41,000 lives (according to a Feb. 14 report from USA Today).
