Intensive Teacher Institute Certificate of Advanced Study in TESOL

We are working to address a critical shortage of content teachers prepared to work with English language learners.Teachers who complete this five-course and three-practicum program will be recommended to NYSED for an Additional Certificate in ESOL K-12. Candidates must pass the ESOL Content Specialty Test and apply for certification through TeachNY.
Candidates can transfer all five courses into SUNY Oswego's MSED Curriculum & Instruction program and earn a Master's degree with just five more courses.

 Program Description

SUNY Oswego ITI-TESOL will run across one academic year (late August-July) and offer candidates key understandings for teaching English language learners. Working with a school-based mentor ENL teacher,  ITI-TESOL candidates will gain greater cultural and linguistic perspectives to enhance their teaching strategies for supporting English language learners.

Courses are taught at the SUNY Oswego Metro Center,
the Atrium, 2 Clinton Square, Syracuse NY.

Admission Requirements

  • Recommendation from your district
  • Current NYS Teaching Certificate
  • Currently employed as a teacher
  • 12 post-secondary (college) credit hours in Language Other than English
  • 3 credit hours in literacy
  • DASA training
  • Graduate Application submitted to the Office of Graduate Admissions, with official academic transcripts and professional resume: www.oswego.edu/gradstudies
