Quest to offer new activities showcasing creative arts

SUNY Oswego’s annual celebration of scholarly and creative activities, Quest, will showcase some new features showcasing student creativity in areas including music, poetry and art, filmmaking, theatre and more on April 17.

University to test emergency communications on April 22

SUNY Oswego will conduct a test of its emergency communication systems on Monday, April 22, 2024 at approximately 11:40 a.m.

The timing of the alert is intended to fully test the university’s emergency notification systems during an active time of day and at the beginning of the 11:30 a.m. slate of classes in session.

Free STI testing offered to first 100 students at April 18 event

Health Services is organizing a "Vegas-themed" Get Yourself Tested (GYT) event for SUNY Oswego students this month, encouraging them not to gamble with their sexual health.

The event, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 18, at the Mary Walker Health Center, will offer free testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) to the first 100 students. They will receive one STI test for gonorrhea and chlamydia at no cost. If additional tests are needed, they will be charged $20 each. No appointment is necessary to participate.

Deadline to register for Lavender Graduation is April 19

Lavender Graduation is an event in which LGBTQ+ students acknowledge what they have accomplished, as well as what they hope to accomplish in the future, this year from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, in the Marano Campus Center auditorium (room 132).

Pride Alliance starts contest for new logo

SUNY Oswego's Pride Alliance has been proud to use their logo these past few years, but has decided a need for a change for the coming semester.

In the past, Pride Alliance has used a mascot named LGBT-Rex, but since 2018 they have gone extinct on campus, the organization said. To bring LGBT-Rex back to life, Pride Alliance is hosting an art competition to revamp their beloved LGBT-Rex and give them friends. Winner(s) will have the honor of their art being a part of Pride Alliance for years to come. 

Lakers net more than $48K during GOLD Giving Challenge

A late-month surge led to the Graduates Of the Last Decade surpassing the 200-donor goal by over 100 donors in the annual March Matchness GOLD Giving Challenge. The month-long challenge resulted in a total of more than $48,500 being raised forThe Fund for Oswego.

Six accomplished Lakers to receive 2024 Alumni Awards

The Oswego Alumni Association (OAA) recently announced the university's 2024 Alumni Awards recipients, several of whom will be recognized during Reunion Weekend, June 6 to 9 in Oswego.

“SUNY Oswego’s vision, as shared by President Peter O. Nwosu, is to ignite possibilities and transform our students’ lives, and this year’s recipients are a testament to the outstanding quality of the alumni who graduate from this university,” said Laura Pavlus Kelly ’09, OAA executive director and director of alumni engagement.

First-Gen Social today in Penfield Library

SUNY Oswego’s FirstLEAP Committee and members of the First Generation Student Club invite the campus community to a First-Gen Social today from 1:30 to 4 p.m, in Penfield 215. Attendees can come for a few minutes or stay for an hour (or two).

Laker Gala to bring the prom to SUNY Oswego

The Laker Gala, a free event for SUNY Oswego students, will bring the feel of a prom to campus from 7 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, in Sheldon Hall ballroom.

Organizers noted that many students missed out on prom due to COVID, and this event is specially crafted and sponsored for those students -- but even those who did have a prom are welcome as well. 

This event is sponsored by Student Association and Auxilary Services, in collaboration with African Student Organization, to celebrate students' tenacity and successes through the pandemic.
