MLK Celebration Planning Committee seeking volunteers for service

The MLK Celebration Planning Committee seeks passionate volunteers for the university's annual Day of Service, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7.

This traditional campus event is a cornerstone of SUNY Oswego’s commitment to honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through active community engagement.

Opportunities are available both on and off-campus.

SUNY Oswego launches inclusive online orientation for distance and Syracuse campus students

A cross-campus collaboration between the Division of Extended Learning, the Office of Student Orientation and Family Engagement and Campus Technology Services has resulted in the successful launch of SUNY Oswego’s new Online Learner and Syracuse Programs Orientation, beginning last month.

This initiative ensures that students outside the main Oswego campus are welcomed, supported and set up for success before they even begin their first class, organizers said.

Registration open for 30-Day Sleep Challenge

February 2, 2026

Registration for the 30-Day Sleep Challenge, which will begin on Feb. 9, is now open.

Run through the Office of the Dean of Students, this challenge is made for current students to help build healthier sleep habits. Each registrant participating in the challenge, which will run from Feb. 9 to March 11, will receive a free sleep goody bag and a fillable PDF or paper journal, and will receive a grand prize for completion.

Alumni help provide for students’ basic needs through SHOP

For April Lopez, assistant dean of students and SUNY Oswego’s basic needs case manager, that exchange captures how SHOP — Students Helping Oz Peers — has grown into one of the university’s most essential resources.

SUNY Oswego contributes climate leadership and policy expertise to NSF-supported FIRE-NET initiative

SUNY Oswego has joined FIRE-NET: Adirondack Fire Futures, a National Science Foundation–supported collaboration that unites experts across northern New York to address wildfire risk, climate adaptation and community resilience. The effort is funded under NSF Award #2536051.

Sixth Avenue closed Tuesday and Wednesday

Campus community members are advised not to park or travel on Sixth Avenue (one block east of Sheldon Avenue) north of Washington Boulevard on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 3 and 4.

The road will be closed these days due to commercial deliveries.

Update on tutoring services to start semester

January 29, 2026

Due to the inclement weather last week, the Office of Learning Services will have limited tutoring when it opens today (Monday, Feb. 2). This will mean certain classes will not be available to book for appointments yet, as they will still be receiving schedules from their tutors.

The office will still be open and ready to book appointments for classes that are already in their system.
