Pre-podiatry Path
Podiatrists (D.P.M.) diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, or disorders of the foot, ankle, and related structures of the leg.
Starting with your first semester of college, you are accumulating the credentials to apply to podiatry schools. Applicants are expected to have:
- Completed a bachelor's degree in any major
- Completed podiatry school course requirements (see below)
- Earn good grades; overall and science GPAs should be at least a 3.0
- Earn a good score on the MCAT; ideally scores should be at least a 493
- Obtain a HPAC Recommendation Letter
- Involve yourself in health-related shadowing, volunteering, and research experience
Course Requirements
These are the courses at SUNY Oswego that are recommended you complete to prepare for the MCAT and meet podiatry school requirements (note, there is some variation in course requirements for podiatry programs, so be sure to check the requirements of the programs you plan on applying to):
