Mission statement

The mission of the Music Department is threefold. Our first mission is to provide learning activities appropriate to music majors and minors who wish to make music an integral part of their future endeavors. Secondly, the department serves a critical role in offering courses to non-majors. Finally, the department provides a vital service to the campus community through its music-making at events ranging from receptions to Commencement, Torchlight and others too numerous to mention.

About us

Oswego's music program, which offers bountiful hands-on learning opportunities, is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. Through its four components -- music history and literature, music theory, applied studio study and ensemble performance -- it provides both music and non-music majors with many opportunities to study and perform.

You can learn to play an instrument, participate in various performing groups, compose music, explore audio production/technology, take courses in music theory or literature and attend concerts presented throughout the year.

Student resources

FEES
Students taking Individual Instruction (Applied Voice, Piano, Strings, etc.) are charged $30.00 per credit hour per semester. This fee covers master classes, music, accompanying, rental fees, etc.

Ensembles

Whether you play an instrument or prefer vocal performance, the music department offers many opportunities for all students to participate in large or small ensembles. You do not need to be a music major or minor to be in the ensembles. In fact, the majority of the students playing in the ensembles are not music majors or minors.
