Minutes

Welcome and Call to Order

James McMahon, College Council Chair, called to order at 9:00 am by Richard Farfaglia.

Approval of Minutes

Minutes of February 21, 2024, were unanimously approved. Motion by Christine Patrick, seconded by Austin Davis.

Student Association Report

Austin Davis, Student Association President, discussed the ongoing budget process, election results, and the restructuring of the executive branch.

New Definition of “Student” in Student Handbook

Request for Council Approval - Kathleen Kerr, VP for Student Affairs, presented a revised definition to better include all students, based on feedback from the student conduct director and comparisons with other SUNY schools. Motion to approve by Tara Fitzgibbons, seconded by Christine Patrick. Motion passed unanimously.

Update on Solar Eclipse, April 8, 2024

Tina Cooper, Internship and Student Employment Coordinator, celebrated the successful viewing event which had a turnout of over a thousand, including a packed room of visiting professors and students. Media update and appreciation for Shashi Kanbur were highlighted.

Alumni Report

Mary Canale, Vice President for University Advancement, discussed upcoming alumni events including the 88th torchlight ceremony and reunion weekend.

Faculty Assembly Report

Elizabeth Schmitt, Chair, Faculty Assembly, gave her final report, covering remaining FA meetings and faculty engagements.

President’s Report

Peter O. Nwosu, President, emphasized the importance of engagement with students, faculty, and staff, updates on Hewitt Hall renovations, and the strategic plan for moving the university forward. Enrollment and retention strategies were also discussed.

Motion to adjourn the meeting moved by Tara Fitzgibbons; seconded by Christine Patrick. Meeting adjourned at 11:01 am.
