Using ANGEL to generate a mastery learning quizzing system

Ken Bain, and many others, have found that student learning is enhanced by the use of low-stakes testing and by providing students with the opportunity to learn from their mistakes without penalty for making mistakes. This presentation will examine how a mastery-learning quizzing system in the ANGEL CMS is being used in Eco 101 sections that range in size from 25 to 400 students.

Academic misconduct! What to do??

There is no doubt that faculty confront a wide gamut of emotions when they encounter instances of academic dishonesty - anger, annoyance, anxiety, depression, more anger, and others. What to do? Oswego's integrity policy provides guidance on identifying the type of misconduct and possible sanctions. Do you want to learn more? Discuss alternatives?  Then this is the workshop for you!

Mentoring

Cathy Santos has organized a panel presentation on mentoring. The presenters are:

Elyzabeth Wengert, Director, Office of Learning Support Services

Ms. Wengert will discuss the transitional phases associated with mentoring from graduate school to the workplace.  She will also address the importance mentoring of underrepresented college students.

Oswego's New Web CMS

The campus is migrating its Web content to a new, dynamic CMS (content management system), Ingeniux. But to get to our new system, we need the help of users in cleaning up and looking at existing content to smooth the migration process. We will discuss archiving and deleting files, checking links, and best practices.

Format: Discussion and hands-on practice.

Common Pitfalls in Advisement

In their roles as Associate Provost, Director of General Education, and coordinator of First-Year Programs,  the presenters have observed a variety of advisement issues that may interfere with a student's progress toward his or her degree.
