Session Title: Using Delicious (or Diigo) and Google Reader to help organize web resources

Have you ever seen a great web resource and forgotten where it was? Have you ever been overwhelmed by the variety of blogs, news sites, and other resources available? In this workshop, participants will create free accounts for Diigo and Google Reader and explore how these tools may be used to more efficiently find, view, and keep track of information that is useful for teaching, research, and other applications.

Google Reader makes it possible to easily view new information posted at your favorite web sites, blogs, and news sites, Delicious or Diigo allows you to save, index, and access web bookmarks from any computer or mobile device that is connected to the internet. A discussion of how these may be used for class and research use wiill also be provided.

Description:
Prezi allows you to create rich multimedia presentations using a simple online tool. In this workshop, participants will create a Prezi presentations that integrates text, images, and media. Participants may wish to create a free Prezi account at http://www.prezi.com before the workshop. We will also show how Powerpoint presentations may be converted into Prezi's format and how one can create a series of Prezi slides that can be posted online as a pdf file.

Session Title: Creating an Avatar in Second Life
Presenter: John Kane

In this hands-on session, individuals will create an avatar in Second Life, learn how to customize the avatar's appearance, and learn how to navigate around this virtual world. Participants will learn how to communicate and how to find people, places, and events occurring this virtual environment. Participants will receive a tour of the SUNY-Oswego island and will explore the HCI building, the CELT building and movie theater, a technology class project site, a replica of the Japan Pavilion at the Columbian Exposition of 1893, and visit Richard Zakin's art exhibit and video presentation in the virtual SUNY-Oswego art gallery.

Whether you are new to editing web pages or just need a refresher, we will show you how to create and edit pages in our CMS (Content Management System). Embed a YouTube Video-It's quick and easy. Just copy and paste.

Embed a Laker Apps Document  - You can embed a Laker Apps document on a web page. Each time you edit and save the document in Laker Apps, the updated version will appear on your web page (usually within 5 min.).

Before the session, please create a document in your Laker Apps account. Go go Documents > choose Create New > Document. Name it and place some text, then save. We will embed this document on a web page using Ingeniux.

But mastering any one citation style is difficult, and students encounter and are required to use a host of different citation styles across the curriculum. With the release of Acrobat Version 9, the PDF portfolio technology was included, which combines a variety of media into one PDF collection/document with a navigation system. Best practices for converting source documents to stand alone PDFs will also be discussed. So how do you offer a prompt that goes beyond asking students for a report of information and emulates the sort of self-sponsored writing scholars do - one that encourages creative, thoughtful, critical engagement with an idea and cultivates mastery of a discipline's key ideas and language conventions? This session will offer some practical suggestions for composing good formal writing assignments. It is a little known fact that archaeologists, anthropologists, and historians attribute the dire predictions of the Maya people and the ultimate disappearance of their society to the lack of an effective technology plan.  In an effort to avoid a similar fate, SUNY Oswego is in the process of developing a long-range technology plan.  Broad-based input to the needs assessment, goals and objectives, and benchmarks of the plan is critical to its success.
