Session I

Session Title: "Getting Started in Second Life"

This is a hands-on workshop designed for those that are just starting in Second Life. It will focus on customizing your avatar, basic navigation, and how to find people, places, and events.

Session II:

Time: 10:45 - 12:15

Session Title: "Educational Uses of Second Life"

Presenters: John Kane

Room: CC 206

This workshop will examine how Second Life and other virtual worlds may be used for instruction. Among the topics discussed: real-time discussions of distance learning students, simulations in science and business, international collaborative learning, multicultural and language study, and musical performance and music business.

Session III:

Session Title: "Turnitin Pilot"

Presenters: David Bozak and Greg Ketcham

The Intellectual Integrity committee is sponsoring a spring pilot for Turnitin. The workshop will present the underlying rationale for evaluating this service, and provide an overview on how to use and interpret the results from this service.
Session IV:

Session Title: "Basic Building Tools in Second Life:

Presenter: John Kane

Learn how complex objects in Second Life may be created by modifying and linking basic 3-dimensional primitive objects (prims), This workshop is designed for those that have little or no experience in building in Second Life.

Session Title: "Evaluation of Plagiarism"

Michael Murphy will conduct a workshop on the evaluation of plagiarism cases. Among other topics, this workshop will examine how to distinguish between a lack of knowledge about citations, the clumsy paraphrase of unfamiliar ideas, and simple ghost authorship.

Session Title: "Building a Home in Second Life"

Participants in this workshop will have an opportunity to practice their Second Life building skills by building a simple 10 x 20 meter house.

Session VII:

Session Title: "Omniupdate Campus: Review of the Basics"

Have you used OmniUpdate (OU) Campus before to update your departmental web pages but are a bit rusty? This workshop is for you. We will review creating pages and folders, file management, editing pages, publishing and best practices. During this workshop you will be working in a training area of our web site. This workshop combines lecture with hands-on practice.

Session Title: "ANGEL Workshop - ANGEL 7.3 - What's New?"

This workshop will focus on new features and clarify the key differences between ANGEL 7.1 and 7.3. Title: "OmniUpdate Campus: Online forms"

Presenters: Pat MacNeill and Rick Buck

Web-based online forms are used to collect information from users that then get emailed to you. For example, online forms can be used for conference or workshop registrations, feedback, evaluations, and more. The OmniUpdate (OU) Campus editor includes form function buttons to assist in you creating online forms. This workshop will teach you how to create forms within your departmental web sites. During the hands on practice you will be working in a training area of our web site. This workshop combines lecture with hands-on practice. Previous experience with OmniUpdate Campus is required.

Session Title: "Social Bookmarking"

Learn how Web 2.0 tools such as Delicious can enhance your teaching and research endeavors. Discover how you can access and organize your web bookmarks from anywhere, tag lists of websites collected by students or yourself such that they can be shared, and take advantage of the tagging done by others. Examples of collaborative student research projects using social bookmarking will be demonstrated.

Session Title: "Sexual Harassment Prevention"

The goal of eliminating sexual harassment in the workplace must begin with prevention. As New York State employees we have a responsibility to prevent sexual harassment from occurring. To accomplish this goal the Sexual Harassment Prevention training is required for all employees. This workshop will: - increase your awareness, and - provide you with the skills and motivation needed to address issues of sexual harassment

Session XII:

Session Title: "Workplace and Domestic Violence Prevention"

Presenters: Marta Santiago and Mary Hoben

Workplace and domestic violence incidents have had devastating effects on the US workforce. In response to these potential dangers and impact on our workforce, two policies have been adopted by SUNY Oswego. This workshop will review these policies and explain the role we all must follow in order to reduce the risk factors for our campus. This program will be especially helpful for those who supervise.

Session Title: "Digital Photography Basics with Picasa"

Presenter: Aaron Reece

Room: CC 206

Learn how to import photos from your digital camera to your computer, resize them, and make adjustments to your photos using Google's free Picasa program for Microsoft Windows. In addition, you will be able to e-mail photographs small enough in size to be downloaded by all of your family and friends without extensive photo editing knowledge. No previous experience with digital photography is necessary.

Session Title: "Office 2007: An Overview"

Upgrading or planning to upgrade to Microsoft's new Office 2007 software suite for PCs? This workshop will show you the new and improved features of the Office 2007 Professional product, including its new look. Specifically, changes in Word, Excel and Powerpoint will be reviewed. This workshop will be lecture based for the first thirty minutes, after which you are free to leave. The second half of the workshop will be very simple tutorials for you to follow to get a basic feel for Office 2007.

Mehran Nojan will lead a discussion of SUNY-Oswego results from the most recent National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE), and the SUNY Student Opinion Survey (SOS)

Title: "Using ANGEL to Implement Mastery Learning"

Ken Bain, and many others, have found that student learning is enhanced by the use of low-stakes testing and by providing students with the opportunity to learn from their mistakes without penalty for making mistakes. This presentation will examine how a mastery-learning quizzing system in the ANGEL CMS is being used in Eco 101 sections that range in size from 25 to 400 students

ORSP Fund Raising Bootcamp - You may attend all four sessions or any individual session.

The 4 ORSP sessions today will constitute a one-day workshop which will prepare you to seek and apply for external funding for your intellectual activities. This discussion applies to research in the sciences and humanities as well as creative activities in the arts. Bring your ideas and you will go home with a plan to find external support for your efforts.

This workshop will review the basics of creating a large poster, tips and tricks for producing good print quality, and how to go about getting the poster printed using the CTS large format printer

Session Title: "You're Not Safe: Protecting Yourself From Ongoing Computer Security Threats"

Unfortunately for all of us, hackers are quite clever and have a lot of time on their hands.  In spite of our significant efforts to secure the computing environment on campus, employees and students still receive email and attachments that contain deceiving and destructive content.  This workshop will help you to understand how to recognize these malicious attacks, how to avoid them, and what to do if you become a victim of one.  The tips and techniques you will learn in this workshop will be applicable to both your campus and home computing resources
