Eric Olson and Sharon Kane will describe their experiences during the Fall 2013 iPad Pilot. Eric will discuss using video capture in science instruction, along with documenting incidental scientific and artistic experiences. Sharon will reflect on experiences with teachers and students in a variety of learning environments, and will share scholarly literature about using e-readers. The session will be interactive. Have you ever wanted to give students problems in ANGEL that are automatically graded, but wanted each student to get different values? We'll show you how during this session. A growing body of evidence indicates that student learning increases substantially when provided with frequent low-stakes testing opportunities. This workshop will provide a brief overview of the empirical evidence concerning the effectiveness of low-stakes testing. Ingeniux enables us to use components, pieces of reusable information which can be placed on multiple web pages. During this session we will create, edit and insert an alternate left navigation component. We will also create a right column component. Session Title: Explore and Create a Google Site

Google Sites provides users an easy to use digital platform to share information, collaborate on a project, track project goals, and communicate with a group.

During this workshop, attendees will be introduced to Google Sites. They will discover why and how Google Sites can serve as a useful digital tool for organizing, sharing, and hosting information for groups to access. Target audiences and ease of userability will be discussed through a Google Sites case-study example. At the end of the workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to explore Google Site templates and to begin to create their own Google Site.  (watch the video)

Session Title: Creating Web-based Submission Forms Using Google Forms

Need to create an online form to gather user data? Maybe for an event registration, RSVP, etc.? Wish the submissions could be automatically entered into a spreadsheet? This workshop will show you how to use the Forms application within Google Drive to accomplish all of that. We'll review the basics of creating the form, how to embed it into a SUNY Oswego web page, how to receive notification when the form is submitted and finally how you can download the spreadsheet data for further manipulation. We will review some drag and drop features with email recipients and attachments, keeping sane with formatting especially when copying and pasting into your message, attaching Google Drive documents, sending calendar invites and working with inline images. Session Title: Labels and Filters - Automatically Organize Emails in Google Mail

This session will teach you how to create and manage labels, automatically apply them to certain messages, and let you decide how they appear in your mailbox. For those frequent, but not immediately useful emails, we'll show you how to create a filter that automatically; applies a label, archives it, skips the inbox, and marks it as read. The techniques taught in this workshop will allow you to better control and organize how messages appear in your mailbox by creating these custom labels and filters. (watch the video)

In this session, you will create a presentation similar to PowerPoint using the Presentation application in Google Drive. See how to easily create slides, insert images, add animations and transitions. Work on it from anywhere, share it with others that need to work or comment on it, review the changes they have made and if necessary revert to an earlier revision. Session Title:  Digital Images for the Web

Learn how to resize an image so that it will fit on a web page using the correct dpi and size. Why bother? Simply put, large images take longer to download and you will loose folks who are still using dial -up or other slow connections. Does your right column image appear too large or small? We will show you how to insert some simple code so the image will appear properly sized on the web page based on the type of device used. In this hands-on workshop we will use Paint.net to edit images and Ingeniux to insert the image on a web page. (watch the video)

Lecture Capture is used for recording live presentations. Audio and/or video can be recorded. Some examples of using this service include:

- recording a class lecture in which students can view the recording later on to clarify points and further their understanding on a particular topic. Or, use it from your desktop to record supplemental class material.

- recording a guest speaker (with their permission of course) so it can be reviewed later by attendees and perhaps others who were unable to attend.

- recording presenter-led workshops.

- using it right from your own desktop or laptop for recording demonstrations on how to use software, additional lectures for a class, role playing, etc.

This panel session will feature students, faculty, and professional staff, from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds, who have been using the learning system with their students and for their own professional development. Different strategies for integrating this valuable learning resource into your work will be highlighted, such as concept learning, development of process skills, flipping the classroom, support of student projects, and professional development. Session Title: Meet The Founders: The Women and Men Who Transformed Sheldon's Vision into Reality

The "Oswego movement" revolutionized 19th century education in the United States by turning the spotlight on the student.  While most give credit for this contribution to the founder Edward Austin Sheldon, he gave the credit to his students and alumni.  In fact, Sheldon's greatest source of pride was to count himself as a graduate of the very first class from "The Oswego Training School for Primary Teachers" rather than a teacher or leader.  Sheldon's greatest strength was his ability to surround himself with students and faculty who were able to create classrooms and schools, thereby carrying the movement forward.  In this presentation, we will turn our attention away from the Founder and focus on the FOUNDERS: those who learned and those who taught in the early days of the Oswego Normal School.  We will become acquainted with Sheldon's teachers, classmates, faculty, and alumni.  These are the remarkable women and men who transformed Sheldon's vision into reality and forever changed the face of education in the United States and the world.  (watch the video)

Rick Bettencourt, an Apple Education systems engineer, will provide a hands-on workshop on creating interactive online course materials in iTunesU. As part of this workshop, participants will also learn how to create iBooks. Participants are asked to bring materials (text, images, videos, urls,) to create an iTunesU course. A faculty panel experienced in dealing with media requests for expertise and information will talk about  how best to prepare for and respond in interviews in ways that will keep reporters coming back for more from you and your college. Among scheduled participants are Ranjit Dighe, professor of economics, who has been quoted in national publications and has blogged for Huffington Post, and Sarah Bozek, visiting assistant professor specializing in public relations and strategic business communications, who coached clients prior to media encounters when she worked for a New York City-based public relations agency. This session is especially recommended for members of the college's Experts and Speakers Guide, but anyone may attend. In this hands-on session, individuals will create an avatar in Second Life, learn how to customize the avatar's appearance, and learn how to navigate around this virtual world. Participants will learn how to communicate and how to find people, places, and events occurring this virtual environment. Participants will receive a tour of the SUNY-Oswego island and will explore the HCI building, the CELT building and movie theater, a technology class project site, a replica of the Japan Pavilion at the Columbian Exposition of 1893, and visit Richard Zakin's art exhibit and video presentation in the virtual SUNY-Oswego art gallery.
