For three SUNY Oswego cinema and screen studies students, participating in the select PitchNY program in November was the next step in their dreams of telling stories through film.

A holiday movie co-written by Juliet Giglio of SUNY Oswego’s creative writing faculty, “Christmas Reservations,” will debut at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, on the Lifetime network.

A clever crossover between 19th-century games and literature earned a major popular culture award for Douglas Guerra of SUNY Oswego’s English and creative writing faculty.

This fall’s Living Writers Series at SUNY Oswego will feature speakers who craft poetry, novels, graphic novels, short stories, songs, plays and screenplays -- and even exposed the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

SUNY Oswego students -- about 60 of them -- from art, creative writing and music have created works for an Oswego State Downtown exhibition this summer that speaks to everyone's responsibility to steward the vast but threatened asset that is Lake Ontario.

Rebecca Dunham -- a "poet as moral witness" -- will make a free presentation at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, in SUNY Oswego's Marano Campus Center auditorium as part of the English and creative writing department's Living Writers Series.

"Only 982," a 14-minute documentary, will screen at 4 p.m. Friday (Nov. 16) in Marano Campus Center auditorium. A question-and-answer session with filmmakers Mic-Anthony Hay, a senior in journalism, and English and creative writing faculty member Juliet Aires Giglio will follow.

SUNY Oswego faculty member Juliet Aires Giglio and her husband, Keith Giglio, teamed as screenwriters for the comedy romance "A Very Nutty Christmas," premiering at 8 p.m. Nov. 30 on the Lifetime network and starring Melissa Joan Hart and Barry Watson.

Refinery29 co-founder/global editor-in-chief Christene Barberich, a 1991 Oswego graduate in both English writing arts and in art as well as a speaker at May's Commencement, discussed how what she studied in college played a role in her success, in an interview on ABC News Radio's "No Limits with Rebecca Jarvis."

Award-winning poet Rebecca Dunham -- author of "Cold Pastoral: Poems," a collection that elegizes manmade disasters from the Deepwater Horizon oil platform to the Flint, Michigan, water crisis -- will join this fall's SUNY Oswego Living Writers Series, a roster that includes a playwright, nonfiction writer, novelist, short story writer and other published authors.
