SUNY Oswego will celebrate Latin American Heritage Month, Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, with speakers, movies, a Penfield Library display and more.

“Off the Books,” an acclaimed new novel by Soma Mei Sheng Frazier of SUNY Oswego’s English and creative writing faculty, deftly walks a tightrope of an engaging character-driven story and a serious exploration of international atrocities in China.

SUNY Oswego is among the recipients of grants from the Library of America’s “Latino Poetry: Places We Call Home” project, which invites participants into a nationwide conversation about Latino poetry.

Esfir Pievskaya, a double major in English and illustration, has earned a competitive Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for an opportunity this fall in Italy.

The Living Writers Series at SUNY Oswego has announced a diverse fall lineup -- with its series, titled “Play,” building upon a long history of visiting writers that spans Pulitzer Prize winners and #1 New York Times bestselling authors.

SUNY Oswego’s annual celebration of scholarly and creative activities, Quest, will showcase some new features showcasing student creativity in areas including music, poetry and art, filmmaking, theatre and more on April 17.

A film collaboration between students, faculty and community members will debut at SUNY Oswego at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, in the Marano Campus Center auditorium (room 132). “Sterling Nature Center: A Living History” explores the creation of a 1,400-acre nature preserve 10 miles west of SUNY Oswego.

Subnivean, SUNY Oswego’s student-staffed digital publication, has announced two prestigious final judges for the 2024 Subnivean Awards. The most recent recipient of the Academy of American Poets Fellowship for distinguished poetic achievement, Major Jackson, will be the final judge in poetry, while Gish Jen, recipient of the Lannan Literary Award for Fiction and a Guggenheim fellowship, will be the final judge in fiction.

SUNY Oswego professor and renowned novelist Robert “Bob” O’Connor is the next speaker in the Living Writers Series, with a virtual discussion at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15.
