SEFA hosting fall mums sale fundraiser

The State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) Fall Garden mums sale is now open, kicking off this year’s on-campus fundraising campaign that supports area charities.

Members of the campus community can purchase big, beautiful eight-inch potted mums provided by Oliver Paine Greenhouses in Fulton featuring colors that include yellow, white, lavender (purple), red (maroon) and bronze (orange). All proceeds from this popular event support SEFA’s 2022-23 campaign.

New tradition Thursday: Paint the Road Green and Gold

A colorful new tradition joining Laker Launch this week will showcase Oswego pride during Paint the Road Green and Gold, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18.

New students will take part in painting the traffic circle located in front of the Marano Campus Center. Paint the Road Green and Gold is one of the events proposed and organized by the College Opening Committee. 

Staff changes announced in Counseling Services

Dear SUNY Oswego Campus Community,

It is with mixed emotions that I share the news that Kate Wolfe-Lyga, LMHC, ACS, director of Counseling Services, has announced her departure from SUNY Oswego to pursue new professional opportunities. Her final day will be Sept. 6, 2022.

Less than two weeks remain to migrate courses from Blackboard to Brightspace

The Digital Learning Environment (DLE) team wants to remind faculty and students that the campus is migrating from Blackboard to Brightspace for the fall 2022 semester. All courses taught with or supplemented by Blackboard need to migrate.

SEFA collecting items to support schoolkids via Stuff-A-Bus

The college’s State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) campaign announced sponsorship of the annual Stuff-A-Bus campaign, which provides school supplies to children in need in Oswego County’s nine school districts. Collection boxes around campus (see below) will receive drop offs. The collection has begun and will run through Aug. 19.

Campus Recreation updates facility access in support of wellness

The Department of Campus Recreation is pleased to announce updated access options to the Fitness Centers, Lee Hall and Swetman Gymnasium. These updates are a result of the continued institutional support to improve the campus health and well-being. 

Current SUNY Oswego students will continue to be granted access to all recreational facilities without an additional fee. Funding of Campus Recreation programs and services are supported through tuition dollars as well as the Student Activity fee. A student ID is required to gain access to the facilities. 

Memorial services set this week for Daniel Griffin

Memorial services are set for Daniel Griffin, the former director of admissions and longtime member of the SUNY Oswego family who peacefully passed away over the weekend at home with family after a courageous battle with cancer.  

Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany St. in Oswego.

Campus invited to 33rd annual Welcoming Torchlight Ceremony, Aug. 19

The 33rd Annual Welcoming Torchlight Ceremony will be held on Friday, Aug. 19, at 8:30 p.m. in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Hall in Marano Campus Center.

This ceremony is an honored tradition during which faculty, staff and current students pass the flame of the Torch of Learning to more than 1,000 incoming undergraduate and graduate students. The event serves as an official welcome to the newest members of the SUNY Oswego community.
