Faculty Scholarly and Creative Activity Grant awards announced

April 12, 2023

The Fall 2023 round of the Faculty Scholarly and Creative Activity Grant application/review process resulted in three proposals selected for funding by members of the Scholarly and Creative Activity Committee, and ultimately approved for funding by Provost Scott Furlong. The funded proposals added up to $7,625 total.

The funded proposals are as follows:

Brightspace Course Tool update

April 12, 2023

On Apr. 14 at 8 a.m., the SUNY Oswego Digital Learning Environment (DLE) Team will add an “Announcements” link to the Course Tools menu in Brightspace. This will reduce the number of clicks needed for faculty to create a new course announcement. The link will appear at the top of the menu list.

SUNY Oswego’s Arbor Day celebration features invited speakers and tree giveaway

For the fourth year in a row, members of the campus community and general public are invited to celebrate National Arbor Day with the Canal Forest Restoration Project (CFRP) team at SUNY Oswego’s Rice Creek Field Station. This year’s celebration on Friday, April 28 includes invited talks from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and a free tree giveaway from 2:45 until 5 p.m.

SEFA sale of flowering baskets to support community cause

The third annual SUNY Oswego State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) Mother's Day Flowering Hanging Basket Sale is now open as a fundraiser supporting the Human Concerns Food Pantry in Oswego.

Campus community members can welcome spring by purchasing 10-inch potted baskets provided by Ontario Orchards. Options include million bells solid color, million bells mixed colors or red geraniums.

The baskets cost $25 each.

Faculty-student challenge grants awarded for dozen projects

The Spring 2023 round of the Faculty-Student Challenge Grant applications funded 12 proposals for a total of more than $52,000 awarded among them.

These proposals that were recommended for funding by members of the Scholarly and Creative Activity Committee and ultimately approved for funding by Provost Scott Furlong.

Quest –- the university’s annual symposium dedicated to sharing the scholarly and creative pursuits of students, faculty and staff –- will offer a wide variety of presentations, panels, posters and more throughout Wednesday, April 19.

SEFA campaign supporting Yards for Yeardley, local families

The university's State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) program is supporting SUNY Oswego's annual Yards for Yeardley event, the local Services to Aid Families (SAF) and It’s On Oz via a collection effort and online donations

Yards for Yeardley is an annual event on campus to prevent dating and domestic violence while honoring its victims, and the SEFA committee wanted to find ways to provide additional support.

May 10 event to showcase opportunities with local non-profits, community organizations

The SUNY Oswego Office of Business and Community Relations (OBCR) and its Leadership Oswego County (LOC) program will host its second annual Nonprofit Boards and Community Activism Fair from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12, at the Roy C. McCrobie Building, 41 Lake St. in Oswego.

ASAP session to highlight Career Services and EXCEL

The Adult Student Assistance Program (ASAP), designed to help adult learners connect with SUNY Oswego and other students, will present on the university's Career Services ad EXCEL (Experiential Courses & Engaged Learning) offices in a virtual presentation at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 13.
