Holiday observances ahead

As SUNY Oswego closes the semester and begins to enter the holiday season, there are many things to be thankful for and holidays to enjoy. While understanding that not all members of our community observe these holidays, acknowledging them is a form of education. This piece highlights three cultural holidays: 

  • Hanukkah (Chanukah): Dec. 18 to 26 
  • Christmas: Dec. 25 
  • Kwanzaa: Dec. 26 to Jan. 1

Campus Community Breakfast set for Dec. 7

Officer in Charge Dr. Mary C. Toale invites SUNY Oswego employees to the annual Campus Community Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Hall in Marano Campus Center.

No RSVP is required for this end-of-semester gathering of faculty and staff.

Campus Recreation announces winter break hours

December 1, 2022

Campus Recreation will be open various hours over winter break. All facilities will operate with normal hours through Thursday, Dec. 8. Lee Hall will close on Friday, Dec. 9, at 4 p.m. and Cooper/Glimmerglass Fitness Centers will close at 4:30 p.m.

Retirement celebration for Mary Craw to take place on Dec. 14

The campus community is invited to celebrate and congratulate Mary Craw as she retires after more than 40 years with SUNY Oswego. The celebration will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14 in 114 Marano Campus Center.

Maintenance of multiple networks in Sheldon to begin Dec. 13

Campus Technology Services (CTS) will perform network maintenance that will affect network connections in Sheldon Hall. 

Network maintenance will take place according to the following schedule:

  • Dec. 13, 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Dec. 14, 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Dec. 15, 1 to 5 p.m.

During these times, wired and wireless network connections and phone service will be unavailable.

Call open for Non-Traditional Student Week nominees

It may feel far away, but Non-Traditional Student Week will take place the week of Feb. 6, 2023. SUNY Oswego's Division of Extended Learning is pleased to sponsor the week of events for the fourth year of recognition at SUNY Oswego.

Organizers are calling for nominations for both current non-traditional students and non-traditional student alumni. Extended Learing plans to feature these students and alumni during the week, via poster displays across campus, social media and both in-person and virtual events.

Blackboard decommissioning scheduled next week

Moving closer to the end of the semester also means SUNY Oswego is moving closer to Blackboard being officially decommissioned. After Dec. 9, Blackboard logins will no longer be available to campus members.

In our continued efforts to strengthen a campus culture of care, SUNY Oswego, with support from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF), is pleased to introduce a new dynamic online platform called Togetherall.

Late Night Breakfast on Friday to celebrate student accomplishments

On Friday, Dec. 2, from 8:30 to 11 p.m., Student Orientation and Family Engagement will host a special Late Night meal, a breakfast that is open to all students in Lakeside and Pathfinder Dining Centers. In addition to the meal, there will be live DJs at both locations as well as a special giveaway to each student who walks through the door. 

'Oz Out Loud: Spoken Word Poetry' reading on Dec. 1

The campus community is invited to hear first-year students present "Oz Out Loud: Spoken Word Poetry" at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1 in The Space.

This annual event features students from CRW 198: "The Spoken Word: I Have Something to Tell You," a First-Year Signature Course. Students will perform their original spoken word poems in front of friends, family and other supporters, and all are welcome. The event is expected to run less than an hour.
