Overview

Our interdisciplinary degree integrates concepts and methods from computer science, graphic design and the social sciences. Drawing upon these concepts and methods, you will learn user-centered design approaches as you create information and communication technologies such as websites, mobile apps, computer games and software design.

Choose between two tracks designed to focus solely on HCI influences or a professional track infused with business courses.

Tracks

Project

This track will focus more on hands-on learning in project-based and experimental settings. In addition, your knowledge and teamwork skills will be put to the test in multiple project courses taken throughout the program.

Thesis

This track, focusing on research and ending with a culminating thesis, is designed for students who wish to enter the workforce upon graduation.

Professional

This hybrid track cross-trains you with the core HCI curriculum with management, marketing and other industry relevant skills from our award-winning and nationally accredited MBA program. Companies need to translate revolutionary discoveries into effective applications for the marketplace and our professional track will put you at the interdisciplinary nexus that will lead into the future of technology and business.

Research Projects

Students learn to design, evaluate, and implement new information technologies that are understandable, usable, and appealing to a wide variety of people. Our students develop a fundamental understanding of the technology design process, tool-building technologies, evaluation techniques, application areas for users, and the social impact of technology on the individual and community.

Outcomes

Graduates will gain real-world experience through projects that incorporate skills building, analyzing and improving human-computer interaction. Graduates of our program often receive funding through fellowships to work on large-scale projects with major businesses like Welch Allyn, MedTech and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Our program also ties with regional businesses to provide opportunities for professional growth and exposure to the industry.

Career Opportunities

  • User experience designer
  • Graphical user interface designer
  • Front-end web designer
  • Mobile app developer

All of my life I’ve been these two people. I am interested in science fiction and technology and I’m also an artist and designer. HCI meant I could pursue both of those things.
