SUNY Oswego welcomed its second year of Tree Campus Higher Education recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation by continuing efforts that include tree planting and restoration, working with classes on initiatives and hosting community events.

SUNY Oswego’s range of sustainability activities once again earned recognition in Princeton Review’s "Guide to Green Colleges" for 2025, released in October.

SUNY Oswego has become an affiliate of the Bee Campus USA program, designed to marshal the strengths of educational campuses for the benefit of pollinators. Oswego joins many other cities and campuses across the country united in improving their landscapes for pollinators.

Earlier this year, SUNY Oswego earned Tree Campus Higher Education recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation for the university’s commitment to effective urban forest management.

While SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. officially announced the phasing out of single-use plastics across the system on March 5, it’s a policy SUNY Oswego has been working toward for a while.

Penfield Library, the Office of Sustainability and the Oswego Public Library came together to celebrate National Seed Swap Day on Saturday, Jan. 27. They hosted a lively seed swap at the public library, with 24 local gardeners coming together to share seeds, seed catalogs, and seed-starting tips.

Every year during the fall semester, the Office of Sustainability hosts various events throughout the week to promote sustainable actions on campus and in the community.

Campuswide efforts and continuous improvement recently earned SUNY Oswego the coveted Gold STARS (Sustainability, Tracking, Assessment and Rating System) status from AASHE, the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education.
