When Jonah Hawthorne arrived at SUNY Oswego as a transfer student, he expected history to repeat itself. After previously dropping out of college, Hawthorne admitted he came to Oswego prepared to walk away from higher education once again. “Fortunately, I was wrong,” Hawthorne told fellow graduates gathered for SUNY Oswego’s 90th Annual Commencement Eve Torchlight Ceremony on May 15. “To my surprise, the people I came to meet here were incredibly accepting in a way I had not seen in my past.”

The fourth annual edition of the One City. One Campus. One Community. photojournalism project was celebrated on May 5 in Oswego’s City Hall Common Council Chambers with nearly 100 university and community members in attendance. The project tells the stories of interns, alumni and community partners working together for the advancement of local businesses and non-profits.

SUNY Oswego launched the new student-run Hewitt Film Festival this spring in the recently renovated Hewitt Hall, now home to the College of Communication, Media and the Arts. The festival showcased emerging filmmakers while celebrating the transformation of the historic former student union into a modern creative hub for storytelling, media and artistic collaboration.

After graduating from SUNY Oswego with a degree in broadcasting and mass communication in 2021, New York City native Adriana Loh decided to build her career as a multimedia journalist with Spectrum News 1 in the Central New York area she had grown to love as a student.

SUNY Oswego continued its impressive climb on the performance-based Broadcast Education Association rankings of media programs, rising to #35 (up 13 spots) and ranking as the top public school in New York state.

When "Marty Supreme" premiered in 2025, audiences were introduced to Luke Manley, who gave a performance that helped the film land a nomination for the Actor Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast. But long before the red carpet, the 2015 graduate was the new kid on campus –- a transfer student who found his footing at SUNY Oswego.

Two SUNY Oswego students earned first-place honors in student categories at the Syracuse Press Club’s Professional Recognition Awards on May 2.

SUNY Oswego's Theatre Department hosted 400 high school theatre students and chaperones on Friday, April 24, for a full day of performances, workshops and collaborative learning on campus during its annual Dramafest.

The Sigma Pi Chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, SUNY Oswego's National Communication Honor Society, held their annual Spring Induction Ceremony welcoming 26 new members on April 21 in Hewitt Hall.
