Starting with a handful of Oswego students heading overseas on Jan. 2, the college has followed a long road back to education abroad –- which is expected to return to nearly full activity for summer and fall 2022.

Jane Okada, a SUNY Oswego student from Japan, earned academic and professional achievements – and a job with a well-known website – through her college years.

Desiree Vila Bargiela, an exchange student from Spain spending the spring 2022 semester at SUNY Oswego, tells of turning tragedy into triumph on an international stage, including at the Tokyo Paralympics, as well as how she is enjoying her time as part of the Oswego campus community.

As more international experiences become available, SUNY Oswego’s Office of International Education and Programs focuses on encouraging abroad experiences for all students who want them, exemplified by December 2021 graduate Awa Dembele’s “Being Abroad” podcast.

Education abroad program at SUNY Oswego to send student to Japan in fall 2022

The SUNY Oswego Office of International Education and Programs joins the celebration of International Education Week, Nov. 15 to 19, with various interactive events, a global vision board workshop and a live celebration with games, contests and food.

Ongoing work on how corporations use individuals’ personal data in exploitative ways has earned communication studies professor Ulises Mejias a prestigious post as a Fulbright Specialist to work on this topic with educators and audiences across the globe.

The college’s Study Abroad Fair, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, in the Marano Campus Center concourse, will offer students an opportunity to look forward to global possibilities.
