Nearly 300 members of the campus community participated in the annual MLK Day of Service to honor his legacy of justice and service to others on Feb. 7. Non-profit organizations both on and off campus benefited from the large volunteer turnout.
Five SUNY Oswego students formed the first cohort of the Hometown University Internship, an initiative that expands traditional internships within the community to additionally embed professional leadership guidance from SUNY Oswego’s Office of Workforce Innovation and External Relations (OWIER) team.
SUNY Oswego English major Ruby Ramseyer started working with the Empire State Service Corps -- which pays student for serving their community -- as an Onondaga Community College student.
SUNY Oswego’s participation in SUNY’s Empire State Service Corps has blossomed this year, with 29 students (up from 13 in its inaugural year) taking part in this opportunity to get paid while making a positive difference with their peers and communities.
The Office of Experiential Learning celebrated students that participated in various applied learning programs this year. Students were recognized for their dedication to programs including the Empire State Service Corps, internships, Focus Forward, Oswego Children's Project and First-Year Success Coaching.
For the Office of Experiential Learning, previously known as EXCEL (Experiential Courses and Engaged Learning), a new name is only one of the changes and evolutions helping improve student access to hands-on experiences.
On Friday, April 19, the university mentoring program Focus Forward celebrated its annual recognition dinner. Families of mentees from local public schools, as well as college mentors, were invited to partake in the dinner.
The Department of Experiential Course and Engaged Learning won the "Excellence in Employer/Community Collaboration Award" at the SUNY CDO conference in Albany.
Nerissa Conklin, a May 2023 anthropology graduate at SUNY Oswego, created an exhibit currently on display at the Richardson-Bates House Museum about the university’s archaeological field school during summer 2022.
