The next installment of Rice Creek Associates (RCA) Reflections will feature an expert talk on “Seven Simple Steps to Save Songbirds” at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, at SUNY Oswego’s Rice Creek Field Station.

The event is free and open to the public.

Matt Kosty, a multi-store franchisee for Wild Birds Unlimited, will discuss actions anybody can take today to help birds. The goal of the talk is to identify the reasons behind the 2.9 million net decline in total bird population in the United States since 1970, and to explore proven steps to reverse this trend. One of the seven steps, for example, is planting native plants.

With Wild Birds Unlimited stores in Fayetteville, Camillus and Saratoga Springs, Kosty is a self-described corporate dropout, having worked at both a Fortune 100 company and a large regional integrated oil company. Kosty now resides in Fayetteville and is passionate about all things that fly and sing.

The event will also stream live via Zoom link available on Rice Creek’s events page at oswego.edu/rice-creek.

Free student transportation will be available: While the Centro Green Route Bus does not run on Saturdays, Rice Creek offers a van shuttle during the fall and spring semesters. Call 315.312.6677 between 9:15 and 10:15 a.m. on Saturdays to request a pick up. Alternatively, book your ride in advance by emailing rcdesk@oswego.edu by 3 p.m. on the Thursday before the program, including your full name and phone number.
