Placement in ENG 101 or 102 will be determined by the Department of English and Creative Writing on the basis of formula weighting students’ scores on the SAT Verbal and New York State Regents English examinations and their overall high school average. Those students directed in ENG 101 will begin their composition program in the fall. They will continue with ENG 102 in the spring.

Advanced placement
If a student in ENG 101 demonstrates sufficient writing skills to succeed in ENG 102 early enough in the semester, the student will be given the option of either dropping 101 and transferring to 102  in the fall semester (if space is available) or waiting to take 102 in the spring.
