Google will rename 'Team Drives' to 'Shared Drives'

Beginning on May 31st, 2019, Google is renaming ‘Team Drives’ to ‘Shared Drives’. This change will affect the web browser version of Team Drives as well as the iOS and Android mobile apps.

Don’t worry, all of the functionality will remain the same and your stored information will be untouched. It is only a name change.

If you are using Google File Stream to create shortcuts to Google Team Drive documents, you may have to update or recreate those shortcuts.  In order to fix the file paths of your shortcuts, check out these instructions.

You will not have to do anything to see the changes in the web browser version of Google Drive. The name will change automatically. The change should take effect within a week of May 31st.

To see the name change on your mobile device, go to your device’s apps store, either Google Play Store for Android or the iOS App Store, and check for updates. You should see an update for the Google Drive app. Once you have installed the latest update, Team Drives will now be called ‘Shared Drives’.
