LakerPrint Now Available in Penfield and Shineman

Near the end of the Fall 2018 semester, CTS started advertising the new student print system called LakerPrint.  It is now available in Penfield and Shineman for all to use.

For those that will be utilizing LakerPrint in Penfield and Shineman, please note the following:

Call for Faculty Computer Replacements

December 4, 2018

Once a year, a call goes out to academic departments to request replacement computers. This program is intended to replace a tenure track faculty member's primary machine. In addition, it will cover the primary machine of an academic departments' full time support staff, including secretarial staff. It is not intended to cover multiple machines, lab machines, student workstations, nor adjunct and visiting assistant professor machines.

Blackboard Update Completed

The SUNY Oswego Blackboard instance was updated on Wednesday, November 21.

Upon accessing Blackboard for the first time after the update, you will be presented with the Blackboard “Privacy, cookies, and terms of use” statement.  If you agree to the terms of use, click “Agree & Continue.” It will look similar to the following.

Visiting Assistant Professor Call for Computer Replacements Starts November 1

October 31, 2018

Visiting Assistant Professors (VAPs) can now request an updated computer. CTS announces this call every year to ensure VAPs have access to updated hardware and software. Computers can be replaced with either new or used equipment depending on VAP length of term in that role. This year’s call starts November 1 and ends on November 16.

New Printing Service Available in all Residence Halls

Residence Life and Housing and CTS have teamed together to bring new print services to the residence halls. Locations that did not already have a printer have had one installed at the front desk area for students to use. Printing utilizes the print quota system already in place throughout the campus.

Cybersecurity Advisor to Present "Making Security Simple: A Logical Approach to Safety"

On October 23rd at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Marano Auditorium, Paul Robinson, a Cybersecurity Solutions Advisor for GreyCastle Security, will speak about “Making Security Simple: A Logical Approach to Safety.” Paul will discuss practical tips for staying safe and securing your data in today's cyber landscape. The first 25 people to attend a session will receive a free T-shirt.

Technology is more pervasive in our households than ever before, from the ‘smart’ thermostats that allow us to manage our energy usage remotely, to the wireless LED lights that can be programmed to do many different things. Malicious actors have increasingly targeted these devices because they are becoming widespread, and people struggle with how to configure them securely. And more than just these “Internet of Things” devices, the number of mobile devices like tablets and laptops in our homes is also increasing. It makes sense, then, to focus on the home and try to make it a haven for online safety.
