Oswego State to host SUNY CIO Listening tour stop

On October 22, 2013, Dr. Hao Wang, SUNY CIO will visit Oswego State. Dr. Wang is on a listening tour of SUNY campuses (http://www.suny.edu/sunyitlisteningtour), inviting colleges to share stories and discuss their current IT environments as well as discuss opportunities and challenges towards serving the students of SUNY in completing their educational goals.

myOswego login change - Thursday, Oct. 17

The myOswego changes mentioned in the "Upcoming Changes to myOswego" article on September 9, were implemented today, Thursday October 17.

As of this morning, myOswego’s login page has been changed to include two different login buttons.  myOswego is the system used for class registrations, grades, advising, financial aid and more.

Meet the Help Desk

As of Thursday, September 26, the Technology Support Center was renamed to the Help Desk.  Chief Technology Officer, Sean Moriarty, said the name change "reflects how the campus referenced the previous Technology Support Center and is a well-known industry term."

Reorganization of CTS

September 28, 2013

On Thursday, September 26, Sean Moriarty, Chief Technology Officer implemented a reorganization in CTS, effective that same day. According to Moriarty, "we have  decided to reorganize to ensure that CTS continues to offer the high  quality services that the campus needs and has come to expect."  He mentioned the goals that were set for reorganizing included:

Yesterday Apple released the new iOS7 operating system for iPhone and iPad. If you’re already upgraded, you may have noticed that you had to “Accept” a new certificate after connecting to “Oswego-Secure”. This is intended and necessary in order for your iDevice to work on the network. CTS has tested and approved iOS7 for the campus network, and it is considered supported software.

Shineman "Shines" with Technology

CTS spent much of the summer preparing for the opening of SUNY Oswego's newest building, the Shineman Center for Science, Engineering and Innovation.  The $118 million, 233,000 square foot building is home to the College’s sciences departments including Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Earth Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics.

App-lying Mobile Technology in the Classroom - iPad Pilot

The beginning of the semester brings an exciting new effort for the use of iPads in the classroom.  The Provost's office, CELT, and CTS are jointly sponsoring a pilot that will allow faculty accepted into the program to experiment with how the devices can be used for teaching, learning and other innovative uses.

Wi-Fi Overhaul Being Planned

Last spring, CTS worked with our Campus Technology Advisory Board to survey the campus on their satisfaction with the services we provide to the campus.  The results of that survey indicated that the campus wi-fi needs to be more reliable and easier to use. Since then, a re-design of wi-fi has become one of our highest priorities.
