FireFox Upgrade Scheduled for Winter Break

Dec 30, 2013 | Software Web

Recently, CTS finished preparing a new version of Firefox for campus use. We will be upgrading Firefox to version 26.  This upgrade will be pushed out remotely to all campus PC machines starting at 8:30AM on January 2nd, 2014. Note that when upgrading, all of your bookmarks (favorites) will be saved.

When you open your newly upgraded browser for the first time, you will see three prompts regarding Java. Below is an image of each prompt, and what you should do when you see it.

Survey recipients are chosen at random when a client’s ticket is closed.  If you should receive one of these messages, they will be emailed from help@oswego.edu with subject "Campus Technology Services survey regarding Incident <number>."

New LakerApps Sign-In Coming Next Year

Dec 13, 2013 | LakerApps

Google recently released information regarding a new sign-in page that will impact logging into all of their Google Apps applications.  For us, this means the page used to login to LakerApps and the login itself (full email address vs. partial email address) could be different.  Google says this change will be “coming next year.”

As we learn more about how this affects LakerApps, we will let you know.

Improvements to WiFi Access for Guests

Dec 10, 2013 | Networking Uncategorized

CTS has made it easier for guests of the College to use the WiFi network while visiting campus.

This semester, individual guests of the College can now register for WiFi access with their campus departmental sponsor.  The sponsor can then create a username and password to be used on the “Oswego-Guest” wireless network.  It is recommended that guests do not use this network for sensitive transactions as it is an insecure network intended to provide primary access to web-based Internet resources.
