Print Quota Changes for Students Starting Summer 2021

As part of the SUNY Oswego print initiative to reduce campus printing, student print quotas have been reduced from 400 to 200 sheets ($30 print dollars) per semester, effective May 24.

Analysis of 2017-2018, 2018-2019, and fall 2019 data suggests that on average, approximately 76 percent of students print 200 sheets or less. We have also seen a significant reduction of printing during the pandemic where more digital methods of teaching and learning have been used. We encourage the continued use of these methods in support of the reduction of printing.

Students who may need to print more than 200 sheets can utilize the CashNet service to purchase more sheets. Note that sheets are still charged at 15 cents per sheet of paper and color documents at 90 cents per sheet. All LakerPrint printers are configured to print double-sided by default.

In addition, faculty and staff LakerPrint quotas will be set to 0 to encourage use of departmental printers. Faculty who would like to explore more digital alternatives to printing for their courses can submit a request with the Help Desk for a consultation.
