Emergency resources

Most emergencies that will affect the operation of the college will be large enough in scale to affect the larger community and region. We will coordinate our campus response with other governmental and service agencies. Depending on the nature of the situation, they may be the best source of emergency information. You can also find campus resources for different types of emergencies on University Police's Emergency Preparedness page.

Nuclear emergency plan

The SUNY Oswego campus is just within the 10-mile zone of the nuclear plants at Nine Mile Point, east of the college in the town of Scriba. Federal regulations require that counties that are home to nuclear power plants prepare emergency response plans for the area within a 10-mile radius of the plants. Oswego County has such an emergency response plan through its Emergency Management Office.

Records access

As part of the State University of New York, SUNY Oswego makes certain records available to the public in accordance with New York's Freedom of Information Law (Public Officers Law Article 6 §§ 84-90).

Student records are generally private and accessible to the individual student and to college employees whose duties require access. Students should contact the office that holds their records in order to request copies.

Social media users' guide

What is social media?

Social media refers to interactive parts of the Internet where we can communicate with such audiences as prospective students, current students, faculty and staff, alumni, parents and friends of the college. It is NOT a bullhorn where the main point is to push out information; it's more about conversations. The realm of social media includes (but is not limited to) Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, blogs and more. Since social media is an ever-evolving field, more outlets and applications continue to appear and adapt to users' needs.

Emergency communications

If there is a disaster or emergency affecting the SUNY Oswego community, you will be able to obtain updates and important instructions through the college's homepage and New York Alert, assuming the situation has not damaged the college's ability to update these resources.

If you need to report a real accident or emergency situation on campus now, please call University Police at 315.312.5555 or 911.
