With the once-in-a-lifetime experience of being in the path of totality for a total solar eclipse on April 8, SUNY Oswego will host student research, viewing opportunities, planetarium shows, children’s activities, lectures from experts and more on its lakeside campus.

Photographing a solar eclipse can be a thrilling experience, but it requires careful planning and the right equipment. SUNY Oswego visiting assistant professor of art Peter Cardone offers some tips and tricks to help you capture stunning images.

Distinguished Professor of Physics Shashi Kanbur answered a few quick questions on what the total solar eclipse on April 8 is, how rare the opportunity is and a key safety recommendation.

For the total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, SUNY Oswego’s activities will include a series of distinguished speakers giving invited talks from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 122 of the Shineman Center.

A visit by the Doppler on Wheels high-tech mobile radar vehicle, a preview of eclipse-related research, hands-on family activities and more are planned for SUNY Oswego’s STEM Community Day, from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 6.

With the National Eclipse Ballooning Project, a SUNY Oswego faculty-student team is among the select institutions taking part in research related to this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
