SUNY Oswego will open a renovated Wilber Hall in stages this fall, completing by year's end the centralization of all School of Education departments under one, contiguous roof for the first time in about 50 years.

Scholarship, teaching and passion led to two recent awards for SUNY Oswego School of Education faculty member Maria Murray -- dedicated to evidence-based practices in the teaching of reading -- and to explosive growth for an organization she founded.

The New York State Education Department recently awarded a five-year, $1.63 million grant to SUNY Oswego's School of Education to scale up and enhance its Teacher Opportunity Corps program, which seeks to attract and retain teacher candidates from underrepresented groups -- particularly young men -- in high-need schools.

Flexibility is the watchword for SUNY Oswego's newly approved path to professional certification for graduate students teaching K-12 health education and physical education -- many of whom also coach sports or have other career commitments.

Distinguished Service Professor Alfred Frederick of SUNY Oswego last month earned the title of Citizen of the State of Piauí, an award bestowed by the northeastern Brazilian state's Legislative Assembly for his more than 25 years working to improve education in the state of Piauí and elsewhere in Brazil.

In partnership with the Oswego City School District, SUNY Oswego has established a college classroom at Leighton Elementary. The new Leighton Learning Community exposes SUNY Oswego students to hands-on teaching and learning opportunities.

Dr. Marcia M. Burrell, professor and chair of curriculum and instruction at SUNY Oswego, was selected to attend the 2016 Higher Education Resource Services (HERS) Bryn Mawr Summer Institute from July 9 to 22.

The SUNY Oswego President’s Award for Teaching Excellence will recognize Carolina Ilie of the physics department and Joanne O’Toole of the curriculum and instruction department.
