Impact 5 - Our Grand Challenges

The Institute of International Education selected Dr. Joshua McKeown of SUNY Oswego to mentor physician-educator Dr. Myint Oo from the Southeast Asian nation of Myanmar (also known as Burma) during an intensive 20-week course designed to build skills for developing and managing an international education office.

On Friday (June 16), SUNY Oswego will again participate in Daylight Hour. The campus community is asked to turn off the lights from noon to 1 p.m. to demonstrate the availability of daylight and the impact on the electrical grid in a single hour.

SUNY Oswego's three-day Leave Green garage sale, May 18 to 20, offers bargains to members of the community while also reducing the amount of items students have to leave and supporting a local cause.

Led by SUNY Oswego's It's On Oz, more than 1,000 students, faculty and staff supported the One Love Foundation in April 2017 by walking, running and rolling more than 5 million Yards for Yeardley, a national initiative to publicize and prevent relationship violence, especially among college-age students.

While April is Child Abuse Awareness Month, SUNY Oswego students in the For the Kids program have been actively raising awareness about this problem and raising funds to support local victims for three years.

In early April 2017, It's On Oz -- the SUNY Oswego chapter of the It's On Us movement -- held awareness events and asked members of the campus community to sign the pledge to stop sexual assault.

Hundreds of SUNY Oswego campus and community members will go miles against relationship violence during Yards for Yeardley, a One Love Foundation awareness event from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 27.

College and community members are invited to hear from a series of speakers through SUNY Oswego in "The Experience of War: Moral Transformation, Injury and Repair."

Former vice presidential candidate Winona LaDuke, a sustainability and women's rights activist and co-founder of Honor the Earth, will speak at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, in Sheldon Hall ballroom [NOTE: venue updated 3-23-17], as part of SUNY Oswego's I Am Oz Diversity Speaker Series.

SUNY Oswego students and staff recently helped a new homeowner and Habitat for Humanity in Omaha -- one of four alternative winter break trips, along with New Orleans; Memphis; and Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
