The home page of oswego.edu earned an international honor through the APEX Awards for communications in many fields.

The Award of Excellence in the home pages and individual web pages category recognized the oswego.edu home page gaining a new look earlier this year during the web team’s redevelopment project. It gave the site a refreshed appearance and a new Drupal content management system behind the scenes.

The reinvention of the front page featured large visuals; surfacing of the most common tasks for current students, staff and faculty; integration of social media and other storytelling; and calls to action for key tasks for prospective students such as applying for admission, scheduling a campus tour and requesting information.

Kelli Ariel, Rick Buck, Joe Fitzsimmons and Tim Nekritz of the college’s Office of Communications and Marketing were primarily involved in creating and executing the award-winning home page.

The APEX awards recognized outstanding work in a wide range of industries in 11 major categories and 100 subcategories.

“APEX awards are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence,” John De Lellis, editor and publisher of Communication Concepts Inc., said in announcing the awards. “With over 1,600 entries, competition was exceptionally intense.”
