The Resistance Revival Chorus (RRC) will bring a message of inclusion, empowerment and joy to a 7 p.m. concert on Friday, April 8, in SUNY Oswego's Sheldon Hall ballroom.

Preceded by a 6:30 pre-concert talk, RRC's appearance is part of the college's Artswego Performing Arts Series.

The group is a collective of more than 60 women and non-binary singers who join together to breathe joy and song into a spirit of resistance, while uplifting and centering women’s voices.

Chorus members are touring musicians, film and television actors, Broadway performers, solo recording artists, gospel singers, political activists, educators, filmmakers, artists and more, representing a multitude of identities, professions, creative backgrounds and activist causes.

The RRC centers women in music, and addresses how historically marginalized women have been in the music industry. The great artist and activist Harry Belafonte once said, “when the movement is strong, the music is strong” and the chorus attempts to live up to that call.

The RRC calls for justice and equity for womxn across racial, ethnic, economic, sexual identity and religious lines. The group aims to be intersectional in its feminism and reveal that all social justice issues overlap heavily with women’s issues.

RRC seeks to harness the collective power of women to help change the world; to celebrate each other through song; and to embrace Toi Dericotte’s idea of joy as an act of resistance.”

Tickets, available through tickets.oswego.edu, are free for SUNY Oswego students; $5 for other students (kindergarten through college); $15 for faculty, staff and alumni; and $20 for the general public.
