This year's SUNY Oswego activities honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. will include a Friday, Feb. 6 celebration with thoughts and performances and an expanded Day of Service (shown here from 2025) on Saturday, Feb. 7.
SUNY Oswego's MLK Committee invites the campus and community to honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. through a weekend of celebration, reflection and service on Feb. 6 and 7.
With a theme of "Moving the Dream Forward: Music Through the Movement," a celebration from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, in the Sheldon Hall ballroom with an evening highlighting the powerful role of music and art in the Civil Rights Movement and beyond.
James Dekle of Purdue University will serve as keynote speaker, with additional student and other performances to include poetry, the Syracuse Gospel Choir, a jazz band and dance.
The event is free and open to the public.
An MLK Day of Service, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, invites the campus to partner with organizations in the local Oswego and Onondaga county communities to make a positive impact. Participants will meet in 145 Marano Campus Center (The Compass) at the beginning of the day.
Open to all members of the university community, these events invite participants move King's dream forward together through unity, service and meaningful engagement.
