SUNY Oswego alumna and artist Lindsey Guile, a Dutchess Community College faculty member and gallery director, will serve as juror for Oswego's 55th annual Juried Student Exhibition, running Jan. 26 through Feb. 11 at Tyler Art Gallery.

A reception for the artists -- any undergraduate and graduate student at SUNY Oswego may enter up to three works in any artistic medium -- will take place at the gallery from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, with an awards ceremony at 6.

Among the awards is the Presidential Purchase Prize -- outstanding pieces are selected each year for the college's permanent collection.

Guile, a body-positive artist exploring concepts of self image through the lens of contemporary feminist theory, earned her bachelor's and master's degree in art in 2004 and 2006, respectively, from Oswego and a master of fine arts degree at SUNY New Paltz, all with an emphasis on painting and drawing.

Her work embraces an intermedia approach that utilizes drawing, printmaking and photography in her explorations into how body image affects self-worth. Now an assistant professor of visual art and Mildred I. Washington Gallery director at Dutchess Community College, Guile's work has shown recently at the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, the Williamsburg Art & Historical Center and at Barrett Art Center.

Guile formerly served as juror for the Arts Alive! Scholarship Committee at SUNY Oswego, where she was an adjunct instructor from 2006 to 2012.

The Student Art Exhibit Committee organizes the Juried Student Exhibition, and the college's Student Association supplies funding. For more information, contact Michael Flanagan, gallery director, at 315-312-2112 or michael.flanagan@oswego.edu.

Tyler Art Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. The gallery is closed on Mondays, school holidays and school breaks.
