Alumni achievers will tell their stories, provide advice and add to the networks of current students via a series of presentations coordinated by the Office of Career Services and the Oswego Alumni Association.

Sessions will give current students an inside view to the fields of sports, theatre, entertainment, the media industry and more. All are free virtual events.

Power Networking with SCMA Superstars: Tuesday, Oct. 20, 6 p.m.

Outstanding School of Communication, Media and the Arts alumni will how to transition from SUNY Oswego to career paths related to Broadway, television, music, radio, publicity and digital content management. The event also will cover what students should be doing now to prepare for their futures.

Participating alumni include:

  • Rufaro Matombo ’12: Matumbo is currently a digital content manager for Safe Horizon, and has past experience as a freelance video editor with 21st Century Fox, former radio promotions coordinator for Emmis Communications and social media/website manager for a community group.
  • Dawn Marcoccia ’93: Marcoccia has 25 years of experience as a NYC star dresser, wardrobe supervisor and designer on sets including "Swing!," "Let it Be," "Rock of Ages," "Radio City," "Sasha Dance Theater" and more. 
  • Juliana Hannett, '95: Hannett is currently the vice president of Rubenstein, and her work history includes serving as a publicist for the Disney Theatrical Group (Broadway: "The Lion King," "Aladdin," "Frozen") and senior publicist for Polk & Co., Philip Rinaldi Publicity and Boneau/Bryan-Brown.

So, You Want to Work in Sports?: Tuesday, Oct. 13, 6 p.m.

The sports marketplace is wide open for just about any major with a passion for sports. Between business, graphic design, event management, health and wellness, the possibilities are nearly endless. Some outstanding alumni who have made a career out of their love of sports will share their experiences.

Participating alumni include:

  • Donna Goldsmith, ’82. Goldsmith currently runs her own consulting business, and she has previous experience as the general manager of operations for the 2014 Super Bowl, chief operating officer for WWE and senior VP for partnership marketing for Tough Mudder, Inc.
  • Ann Wells Crandall, ’83: She is the owner of Crandall Sports Business Strategy and is the former chief marketing officer for the Big East Conference. Prior to that, she was a senior VP for Pac-12 Networks, executive vice president for business development with New York Road Runners as well as senior director for new business development for the NBA.
  • Matt Bishop, ‘14: Bishop has worked in talent placement for Upstate Sports Edge, served as the technical director for WKBW-TV in Buffalo and a technical director for the Buffalo Sabres. Recently, he was a studio manager and Producer for B Live, LLC. He is currently a director with ESPN in the greater-NYC area.

So, You Want to Work in Theater & Entertainment?: Monday, Oct. 19, 6 p.m.

The entertainment and theater industries provide some exciting career paths, with an amazing array of options available -- although it is also one of the most impacted by the current pandemic. Alumni from Broadway, news and late-night TV will provide information on some of your options and, importantly, what you can do now to prepare for success.

Participating alumni include:

  • Gabriel Almanzar '05: Almanzar has been putting his BFA in graphic design to work as supervising art director for "CBS This Morning" since 2007. He has worked events like presidential elections and debates, Super Bowls, a royal wedding and much more. Prior to that he worked at ESPN/ABC Sports and collaborated on events like the NBA Finals and Indy 500.
  • Denise Grillo '84: A technical theater major, Grillo has worked with production props for Broadway shows including "Hamilton," "Mrs. Doubtfire," "War Paint" and "The Cher Show."
  • Dave Saretsky '95: Saretsky is a two-time Emmy-winning technical director and currently works with "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver," but has also worked with MTV, HBO and the NBA.
