Applications extended for 2019 Student Involvement Awards

The Student Involvement Awards recognize and reward those students and their student organizations whose involvement has made SUNY Oswego and the surrounding community a better place to live and learn.

Their hard work can be seen through educational programs, community service projects, athletic events, guest speakers and a variety of other ways. Under the extended deadline, students have until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 29, to complete all applications.

Spring 2019 Writing Fellows workshop series begins this week

The Writing Fellows workshop series will begin this week and run through the end of the spring semester. The Writing Fellows Program will offer five sessions to support faculty who use writing in the courses they teach, with a goal of building the wider culture of writing on campus.

All sessions, open to faculty and staff across disciplines, will take place in the CELT Conference Room, 123 Penfield Library. They include:

Scholar of gender, human rights issues to keynote Spanish Colloquium

Dr. Barbara Sutton, associate professor of women's, gender and sexuality studies at University at Albany, will make the keynote speech for the annual Spanish Colloquium at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, in 114 Marano Campus Center.

The colloquium -- formally titled the Fifth Colloquium on Hispanic Literature and Culture -- will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to host and moderator Gonzalo Aguiar Malosetti of the modern languages and literatures faculty.

Jerri Howland formally appointed vice president

I am pleased to announce the formal appointment of Dr. Jerri Howland as vice president of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management effective immediately. Howland had served as interim vice president since June 2018.

Commissary renovations to upgrade infrastructure for food service

A major renovation project on the cold storage area at the college’s Commissary building will begin in April and have some impacts on dining services.  

Opened in 1966, the commissary building, at the intersection of Mollison Street and Johnson Road just off Route 104, is operated by Auxiliary Services and stores a majority of the food supplies before distribution to the various dining facilities and kitchens around the SUNY Oswego campus.

Pre-Optometry Club collecting used glasses for charity

The Pre-Optometry Club is collecting used prescription glasses, which will be donated to the students at SUNY Optometry for their mission work.

The collection box is located in Room G02 Shineman. People are invited to drop the glasses off or send them via campus mail to Kristin Gublo in the Shineman Center by May 1. Donors can include their name to be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a gift card.

Spring 2019 Oswego KidsTech registration open

Children are invited to participate in STEM 4 Kids K-3 or Young Inventors (grades 4-6) program which start this April.

The college's department of technology and Oswego Technology Student Association will host two different iSTEM (integrative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs for elementary-aged children. Both four-week programs will start the first week of April and include hands-on activities focused on the relationships among the different components of STEM.

Students invited to March 30 open audition for Oswego television special

An open casting call seeks entertainment talent such as acting, singing, hosting, dancing, stand-up comedy, playing music, ventriloquism, magic and more!

On Saturday, March 30, in Room 50 (stage level) of Tyler Hall from 4 to 7 p.m., professor Todd Graber from the music department, associate professor Jonel Langenfeld from the theater department and assistant professor Francisco Suarez from the communication studies department will hold an open audition for those students who would like to be part of the entertainment talent for the SUNY Oswego Holiday Television Special.

Students encouraged to 'drop-in' with President Stanley today

President Deborah F. Stanley continues her drop-in meetings with students today (Wednesday, March 13), as the second session of the spring semester runs from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Marano Campus Center food and activity court.

All students are encouraged to drop in, say hello to President Stanley, ask a question or discuss a topic important to you.
