Candidates for SUNY Oswego undergraduate degrees in art will exhibit work from their portfolios starting Saturday, Nov. 21, in Penfield Library’s Tyler Art Gallery. The free show will run through Dec. 10.

The Fall 2015 Bachelor of Fine Arts - Bachelor of Arts Exhibition will hold a free public reception for the artists from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, in the gallery on the library’s second floor. Awards presentations will take place at 6 p.m.

The exhibition will feature 12 BFA candidates majoring either in studio art—in a wide variety of genres from printmaking to painting—or graphic design: Heather Bair, Ashley Bennett, Danielle Comfort, Kristy Hoover, Matthew Kostreba, Alexander Lovell, Kimberly Pitzrick, Michael Putillo, Taylor Rodbourn, Mark Shapiro, Sharon Bottle Souva and Julio Valenzuela.

Hoover, a Watertown resident and a BFA candidate in studio art, said she plans to exhibit two self-portrait ceramic statues and several torsos, all from human molds. Inspired in part by international studies trips to Turkey and Italy, her pieces represent individualism and the search for self-identity.

“My self-portraits are all very personal and cathartic,” said Hoover, who served as a teaching assistant for art faculty members Juan Perdiguero and Roxanne Jackson.

Though the portfolio exhibition is required for BFA candidates, students working toward a BA in art have the option of exhibiting their work. BA candidates include Kyle Benwitz, Kyle Danker, Kimberly Hamlor, Jennifer Hotchkiss, Christie Krisak, Christopher Lobosco, Franchesca Marte, Kristen Pareti, Evander Russ, Natalia Schmitz, Sarah Semit and Lauren Wilke.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Parking on the SUNY Oswego campus requires a permit; drivers without a current campus parking sticker can visit oswego.edu/administration/parking for information on obtaining a $1 day-use permit.
