Butterflies, birds, blooms, buds and more will be among the sights as spring begins at Rice Creek Field Station, hosting programs during Explore Oswego from March 27 to April 4.
Nature events at Rice Creek Field Station, Laker athletics contests, a student art exhibition, open recreation and more welcome members of the community to SUNY Oswego from March 27 to April 4 during local school districts’ breaks.
Highlights include:
- Rice Creek Field Station sessions including Telescope Observation Sessions from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. March 27 to 29; Birdwatching for Science from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on March 28; a Guided Nature Walk at 11 a.m. on March 28; a “Busy as a Beaver” program and walk at 10 a.m. for kids and at 1 p.m. for all ages, both on April 4; and a Rice Creek Reflections program featuring biological sciences faculty Dan Baldassarre at 2 p.m. on April 4
- Laker home athletics contests including baseball vs. Canton (3 p.m. March 27, and doubleheader, noon, March 28), vs. Ithaca (3 p.m. March 31) and vs. Brockport (3:30 p.m., April 1) ; softball vs. Rochester (doubleheader, 1 p.m., March 28), vs. Brockport (doubleheader, 3 p.m. March 31) and doubleheader vs. Canton (3 p.m. April 3); men’s lacrosse vs. Plattsburgh (2 p.m. April 3); women’s lacrosse vs. Morrisville (1 p.m. March 28) and vs. Oneonta (5 p.m. April 3); men’s tennis vs. Nazareth (4 p.m. April 1) and vs. St. John Fisher (1 p.m. April 4)
- The 63rd annual Juried Student Exhibition, Tuesdays through Fridays from 2 to 6 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends (running through April 3)
- Penfield Library Community Days, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 28 to April 4
- Open hours at the Shineman Planetarium from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays
- Open gym in Lee Hall from noon to 4 p.m. daily from March 27 to April 4
Since classes are still on at SUNY Oswego during that span, there is a $3 charge per day for parking on the campus during the week until 4 p.m. The Parking Services Office, located at 7044 State Route 104, is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; phone number is 315-312-3227. No parking passes are needed for regular parking spaces after 4 p.m. on weekdays or anytime on the weekend. Parking lots closest to programs during the day are C-32 near Culkin Hall, and E-23 near Rich and Lee Halls.
