Oswego seeing its first snow over the weekend provides a timely reminder for winter weather procedures for the months ahead.

In case of inclement weather that causes all classes for a block of time (usually daytime, evening or both) to move to either remote instruction or cancellation, the best way to ensure you receive notifications is to sign up for or verify your information for the university's NY-Alert system

Classes will proceed as scheduled unless official announcements of cancellation or remote instruction are made. When classes are canceled or a remote instruction day is declared, faculty and commuting students are advised not to come to campus.

Much more information on other ways to learn of the university's instruction status and related topics are available on the Severe Weather webpage.

Please remember that caution and patience are the best avenues for handling winter weather. If driving to campus, allow extra time to reach your destination, as conditions might vary around the region.

Also please exercise caution when walking in snowy and icy conditions:

  • Wear shoes or boots that provide traction; avoid shoes with heels.
  • Walk on designated walkways as much as possible.
  • Don’t text or read while walking.
  • Walk slowly; take short steps.
  • Keep your hands out of your pockets when possible.
