The author of this year's Oswego Reading Initiative book, "Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants," Robin Wall Kimmerer, will speak on campus today while also discussing her latest grassroots community movement.
A botanist, author and member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, Kimmerer is renowned for her work bridging Indigenous knowledge and Western science. Her bestseller "Braiding Sweetgrass" invites readers to cultivate a deeper, more reciprocal relationship with the natural world.
Today's events include a 1 p.m. Q&A at Rice Creek Field Station, a 3 p.m. visit for the Living Writers Series, and the main Oswego Reading Initiative event at 7 p.m. in the Hewitt Hall ballroom.
Kimmerer's latest initiative, Plant Baby Plant, is a grassroots movement dedicated to healing the land, building community and transforming love of place into meaningful social change. Through this initiative, she continues to inspire action rooted in care, reciprocity and collective responsibility for the Earth.
