SUNY Oswego appears on The Princeton Review's recently published "Best Northeastern Colleges" recommended schools for 2018.

The Princeton Review rated SUNY Oswego one of the top 229 colleges in the 11-state region as part of its "2018 Best Colleges: Region by Region." Oswego has earned the "Best Northeastern Colleges" distinction every year since the educational services company started regional listings in 2003.

Based on the results of surveys of more than 137,000 students at colleges and universities nationwide, The Princeton Review compiled a wide variety of "Best Colleges" data from student responses about their schools' academics/administration, life at their college, their fellow students and themselves.

Academically, SUNY Oswego has an "excellent business program," a strong education program, a "successful honors program," and "good study-abroad options," according to students in The Princeton Review's survey.

All in all, Oswego has "amazing professors" who make an Oswego bachelor's degree "a great education for the amount of money you pay." Students "have a lot of opportunities to work with professors on research and other projects outside of the classroom to help build real-world experience."

Student comments on campus life included, "When the weather is nice we have bonfires down by the lake" and "There are also concerts and performers that come throughout the year to the school." And in the winter, "one of everyone's favorite things is going to the home hockey games" -- SUNY Oswego won the men's ice hockey national championship in Division III in 2007 and both its men's and women's teams regularly appear in national rankings.

The Princeton Review scores schools on its four "Best Colleges: Region by Region" lists in six categories: academics, admissions selectivity, financial aid, fire safety, quality of life and green. The company surveys administrators of each school to obtain data for the ratings. Schools on the regional lists appear in alphabetical order, unranked.

The college's profile noted SUNY Oswego enters the second year of its early-action program, a non-binding application option that allows students with a strong interest in attending Oswego to learn their admission status by mid-December.

The college enrolls about 8,000 students in its College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, School of Education, School of Business and School of Communication, Media and the Arts. The college offers more than 110 programs of study, as well as graduate degree and certificate programs.
