Psychology professor Leigh Bacher and her former research assistants Shirley Retz and Courtney Lindon published a paper in the journal Infancy from their collaborative project that examined features of cognitive activity in human infants. The paper, “Intraindividual and Interindividual Differences in Spontaneous Eye Blinking: Relationships to Working Memory Performance and Frontal EEG Asymmetry,” had Martha Ann Bell of Virginia Tech and State University as an additional co-author. Retz and Lindon both earned bachelor’s degrees in psychology in 2014 and master’s degrees in mental health counseling in 2016.
Junior finance major Olivia Lascari of New York City received a fall 2016 JASSO Scholarship from Akita International University in Japan to help defray her expenses to study there as an exchange student, according to SUNY Oswego’s Office of International Education and Programs. The Japan Student Services Organization, an independent administrative institution established under the East Asian nation’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, administers the scholarship program for international students. A four-year liberal arts university, Akita is located in the Tohoku region of northern Japan.
Sophomore communication and social interaction major Corinn Stellakis will travel to the Philippines in October to compete for the title of Miss Earth, an international pageant that celebrates environmental stewardship. A resident of Bridgeport, Stellakis was crowned Miss Earth USA 2016 on Aug. 1 at the Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center in Washington, D.C. Stellakis will leave Oct. 5—one of 10 among approximately 100 contestants from around the world chosen to attend well ahead of the Oct. 29 pageant.
