Work begins today, Sept. 8, on the city of Oswego's main east-west thoroughfare, the Bridge Street Bridge on Route 104.
The New York State Department of Transportation project, with work done by Slate Hill Constructors Inc., gets underway on Sept. 8 with temporary lane closures, the city announced on Friday. One lane will be closed at a time, starting with the westbound lanes. These will take an hour or two per lane to do inspections.
If defects are found, lane closures will be a few days long to make spot repairs.
Once the inspection and spot repair phase is complete, temporary concrete barriers will be set to divide the bridge in half.
Traffic will be shifted accordingly, and there will be one travel lane each way for the remainder of the project. They will complete work on one half, then shift to the other side.
Work hours are expected to be Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Lane shifts will begin at West Second Street and East Second Street.
The recent completion of work on the Utica Street Bridge means that the route is back to full access.
